Race week starts before the start line
For runners heading to Running Lab Run 2026, this weekend is the practical start of race week. Race-pack collection is open at Marina Square's Central Atrium on 22 and 23 August, from 10am to 7pm. The race follows on Sunday, 30 August at Casuarina Grove in East Coast Park.
The event includes a 5km Easy Run, 10km Competitive, 15km Competitive and 10km Team Challenge. Whatever your category, the final seven days are not a last-minute audition. They are a chance to make the fitness you already built easier to use.
Collect the pack, read the current guide and check the bib before you leave. That small piece of admin buys you a calmer Saturday night next week.
Do less, on purpose
A missed hard session cannot be safely repaid with interest in race week. If you already follow a coach's plan, stay with it. If you do not, this is not the moment to add a long run, a new strength workout or a set of intervals because your watch made you nervous.
Singapore's Health Promotion Board advises endurance athletes to taper exercise in the days before an event so muscles can rest. That does not have to mean becoming completely inactive. Easy, familiar movement can keep the week feeling normal, while the overall load comes down.
Think of the goal as arriving with responsive legs, not proving your fitness in advance. Training creates the work. Recovery gives it somewhere to land.
Keep food, drink and kit boring
Race week is a poor testing lab. HealthHub's guidance is clear that changes to food and fluid strategies should be practised during training, not introduced just before competition. Use the meals, breakfast timing and on-run fuel that your body already knows.
The same rule belongs in your kit bag. Do not make race morning the first outing for new shoes, socks, shorts, a belt or a gel. A short familiar run is a better place to notice a rubbing seam, loose lace or bottle that bounces.
Hydration is personal and both too little and too much can be harmful. Use what you learned in training, consider how long you expect to be moving and seek individual advice from a qualified professional if you have medical or nutrition concerns.
Walk through the morning before you run it
The official race guide places the village at Casuarina Grove, Area F of East Coast Park, near Bedok Jetty. It warns of congestion near the venue and asks runners to arrive 30 minutes to one hour before their flag-off time. That is worth planning now, not while half-awake next Sunday.
The current programme opens the village at 4:30am. The 15km flag-off is scheduled for 5:45am, the 10km for 6:45am and the 5km for 7:30am, all subject to change. Save the live guide and check it again before travelling.
If you are using baggage deposit, it is scheduled from 4:30am to 9:30am. Pack light and leave valuables at home. For the timed 10km and 15km categories, the bib contains the timing chip, so the organiser says not to bend it.
Make race morning feel familiar
Your warm-up does not need to impress the start pen. Sport Singapore recommends a proper warm-up and cool-down, and points to simple cardiovascular movement such as jogging, brisk walking or jumping jacks before harder effort. Use movements you have already practised.
Check the forecast before leaving and follow official weather instructions. Sport Singapore says outdoor activity should be cancelled or postponed when there are signs of lightning, with immediate shelter the priority if stormy weather develops.
On the course, the Running Lab guide asks runners to keep left so faster runners can overtake and not to litter. Water is scheduled along the route. If you are injured or notice unusual symptoms, the organiser directs runners to its medical staff or course marshals.
Your seven-day win is fewer surprises
This weekend, collect the pack and read the guide. Early in the week, keep the training familiar and let the load ease. By midweek, settle your transport, kit and breakfast plan. The night before, pin nothing to chance: set the alarm, place the bib with your shoes and check the organiser's latest update.
Then let race morning be ordinary. Arrive early, warm up the way you usually do and start at an effort you can own. A final week does not need drama to be effective.
The fitness is already in the bank. Your job now is simply to reach the withdrawal counter rested, ready and with your bib in hand.
